Together with old interview quotes, their stories create an image of a lovable rascal who was always up for a practical joke, kept his band together, and loved his rock’n’roll lifestyle from the bottom of his soul. To answer these questions, the author of this book interviewed dozens of people who knew Nicholas “Razzle” Dingley. But who really was Razzle, and what was his life like? His life ended in a car accident involving the singer in Mötley Crüe. We remember you, and we remember Razzle.Ī funny and wistful saga of a mythical cult icon So, this is for you, Timo Kaltio, Seppo Vesterinen, Scott Bushburt, Ron Creaser and Shaun Newnham. I’m happy to see people have been looking forward to the English version. To me personally, this book project felt very special and important. Today’s the official release day of my latest book, the English version of Razzle – The Story of the Hanoi Rocks Legend. The baud unit denotes symbols per second, or the number of times per second the modem sends a new signal. Historically, modems were often classified by their symbol rate, measured in baud. Modern broadband modems are typically described in megabits. Modems are frequently classified by the maximum amount of data they can send in a given unit of time, usually expressed in bits per second (symbol bit/s, sometimes abbreviated "bps") or rarely in bytes per second (symbol B/s). Today, modems are ubiquitous and largely invisible, included in almost every mobile computing device in one form or another, and generally capable of speeds on the order of tens or hundreds of megabytes per second. The move to cellular telephones, especially in the late 1990s and the emergence of smartphones in the 2000s led to the development of ever-faster radio-based systems. The rise of public use of the internet during the late 1990s led to demands for much higher performance, leading to the move away from audio-based systems to entirely new encodings on cable television lines and short-range signals in subcarriers on telephone lines. As device sophistication grew rapidly in the late 1990s, telephone-based modems quickly exhausted the available bandwidth, reaching the ultimate standard of 56 kbit/s. By the 1980s, less expensive 12 bit/s dialup modems were being released, and modems working on radio and other systems were available. By the 1970s, higher speeds of 12 bit/s for asynchronous dial connections, 4800 bit/s for synchronous leased line connections and 35 kbit/s for synchronous conditioned leased lines were available. These generally operated at 110 or 300 bits per second (bit/s), and the connection between devices was normally manual, using an attached telephone handset. Modems can be used with almost any means of transmitting analog signals, from light-emitting diodes to radio.Įarly modems were devices that used audible sounds suitable for transmission over traditional telephone systems and leased lines. The goal is to produce a signal that can be transmitted easily and decoded reliably. A modem transmits data by modulating one or more carrier wave signals to encode digital information, while the receiver demodulates the signal to recreate the original digital information. A modulator-demodulator or modem is a computer hardware device that converts data from a digital format into a format suitable for an analog transmission medium such as telephone or radio. Once it’s downloaded, you can log into the app by either entering your information on your Roku or by using a QR code to log in through your mobile device, and then access any shows or movies you have in your collection.Ĭord cutters who live in the US will also have access to Sling TV, YouTube TV and PlayStation Vue, plus the Featured Free section of the homepage that shows you what's available for free on the different services. To download the app, go into the 'Featured' section of the channel store or search for 'Apple TV' through the Roku voice remote or Roku app on your mobile device. The newest addition to Roku’s channel lineup is Apple TV, which finally made its appearance before the launch of Apple TV+ in November. If you're in the UK and decide to obtain a Roku Streaming Stick from overseas, check out Sky's Now TV platform (Sky being a shareholder in Roku), Netflix and Demand 5. You can rent and buy individual movies and TV through Vudu and Fandango, the latter of which is the de facto rental service on the streamer. Roku boasts more than 4,500 channels ranging from the streaming mainstays, like Netflix, HBO and Vudu, to the obscure – there's actually a station called "Firewood Hoarders" – so finding something to watch is rarely a problem.įor US viewers, all the big names are here: Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, HBO and Youtube and Crunchyroll, Plex and Pandora and Spotify. Roku may not have literally everything, but this is as close as it’s going to get. If there’s a more fully featured app store on a set-top box, we’d like to see it. Both of these are great features if your family goes to bed early and you still want to watch something. Last but not least, it’s worth pointing out that the Ultra’s remote still has the auxiliary audio jack on the side for private listening and even comes with a pair of JBL headphones. This is a nice touch, especially for cord-cutters who can then safely put away the TV remote. The good news is that the player can control your TV via HDMI CEC, allowing you to use a single remote to turn on and off your TV, and control the volume. Heck, it's not very long, but even the entry-level $35 Roku Express comes with an HDMI cable, so for it to be missing here feels like a pretty big misstep. which feels a little cheap for a device that costs $100. That means you have to supply your own HDMI cable. Inside the box, all you get is the remote, some batteries and the player itself. But for folks who like to have every streaming app downloaded at all times, the extra storage options are nice to have. More likely than not, you should be OK with Roku Ultra’s default storage capacity - of which there’s plenty. There’s also a USB port located on the side of the player that can be used as a connector for a USB drive. What sets the Ultra apart from other models in Roku’s lineup is that it comes with the new-and-improved remote with two programmable buttons, an ethernet port on the back and the remote finder button located on top of the player.īesides the ethernet port, the back of the Roku has an HDCP 2.2 HDMI 2.0a port for video out, a 12V – 1A power adapter and a MicroSD card slot that can be used to store additional channels. Inside, the Roku Ultra packs a quad-core processor and 802.11ac dual-band wireless antenna. but don’t let its diminutive stature fool you – this is still a super-powered machine. Compared to the old Roku 4 and newer Premiere+, the Ultra is substantially smaller. Just as it was in previous years, the Roku Ultra is a flat, disc-shaped streaming video box that inconspicuously blends in with all your other AV equipment. Before moving on, make sure the option that says “Scanning Style” says “Manual”. This is why I couldn’t find how to set multiple recipes for the switch, but no matter, not needed here :). This is where you select which Recipe the Switch launches when you initiate the switch. Once the recipe is created, go back once and you’ll see at the end an option saying “Launch Recipe”. The extra tap needs to be on something blank, I’ll explain in a bit why it’s needed. Count time to let the dragon harvest, then tap somewhere else once you’ve allowed enough time for the harvest. On the gesture screen, double tap in the location of the flower (use your imagination). For this you’ll need to know the actual position of the flower on the screen (or, well, later you can move the screen a little bit to adjust the positioning when you activate the switch). The gesture screen will be matching exactly what the event screen is, and that’s why I turned it landscape orientation when I got to this point. Each time the screen is tapped once, the Switch will activate again, so in order to repeat there will be multiple taps needed but that’ll come clear at the end (More details to come). But regardless, it works fine when set right. The recipe is unfortunately not repeatable and I couldn’t find a way to make it repeatable (someone could refine my steps maybe if they discover something?). So, when Switch Control is activated it will require a tap to initiate the Switch and the recipe to kick in. This next step is probably the most important one and it needs an understanding of how this will be applied in order to make it work right for our events. Give it a name of your liking and select a Switch for it. I created a dummy recipe for this video, but it’s almost exactly the same as the one I created to use in the game. I guess you can create many recipes, but as far as I know only one recipe will be used by the Switch. When creating the switch full screen, the next option should be “Select Item”. I deleted the switch I had already created for the purpose of this video, as you can only make one switch of each type (at least on my iPhone). It needs to be based on screen (as the input for the switch). So first of all you’ll need to set up a Switch. Alternatively, you can turn your screen off (lock your phone) then turn it back on and triple tap the home button right away. So, if you have multiple Switches queued up, you have to wait for them to finish. If a Switch is currently running, you have to wait for it to finish before you can deactivate Switch Control. To deactivate switch control, triple tap the home button again. To activate switch control, triple tap home button. It may be a bug that will eventually be fixed.Disclaimer: in order for this to work, I deleted my slow dragon and am working with the faster one solely.ĭisclaimer 2: before you go all crazy with this, you’ll need to know exactly how to turn off Switch Control once it’s activated, otherwise you don’t have manual control over your phone. But I was able to call Siri (using Back Tap) from the lock screen. However, for some reason, I could not take a screenshot (using Back Tap) when iPhone was locked. Back Tap works when your iPhone is unlocked as well as locked. Back Tap works on the lock screen or not? I tried using it with a case on, and it worked just as it does without one. Back Tap work if I have a case on my iPhone? For example, if you double-tap to bring up App Switcher, double-tap again to exit out of it. To exit the performed action, Back Tap again. You can even tap on the camera glass or flash, and Back Tap still works! I experimented with tapping different areas of the iPhone back. How to use Back Tap on iPhoneĪfter you set up this feature, hold the device normally, and tap anywhere on the iPhone’s backside. If you do not want to use the iPhone Back Tap feature, you can turn it off by choosing None for Double Tap and Triple Tap. Tap on You can set actions for one of them or both. Scroll to the end, and tap on Back Tap.List of iPhones that support Back Tap feature List of iPhones that support Back Tap feature.Once you set it, you can double or triple tap the back of the iPhone to perform the said actions. With iOS 14, Apple has added a new feature under Accessibility settings called “ Back Tap.” You can customize it to launch system actions like open Notification Center, take a screenshot, App Switcher, Accessibility features, or add actions from the Shortcuts app. In case you have Photoshop installed on your computer, the program offers support for a graphic plugin that you can try on. If you’re feeling even more energetic, get involved in the annual Isle of Jura Fell Race, which includes the three Paps, plus another four mountains!Ĭraighouse, Jura’s main settlement, is nestled around a picturesque bay on the island’s east side.If you’d like to hike the Paps of Jura, and ‘bag’ all three mountains in one day, check out the full details on the Walk Highlands website.Even though they are always there, and always visible, they kept taking me by surprise when I saw them from a new angle, or against a differently coloured sky. When I reached Port Askaig to catch the ferry to Jura, my excitement quickly amplified, as I stood gawking at the uninterrupted and otherworldly vista of those soaring peaks. I could see them from Bowmore on Islay, hours before my journey to the island had even begun. The Paps of Jura have a truly stunning presence, and beckon you to the isle from a great distance. Barnhill is the house where George Orwell took up residence in the 1940s, to escape the chaos of London and write his classic novel 1984 in the years before he passed away.Ĭorbett = mountain between 2500ft – 3000ft Quite pricey given the basic provisions, and limited electricity, you think? This however, is no ordinary abode. There is also a remote farmhouse which can be yours for £1000 for a week. Everything else is wilderness.įor those who wish to go into the wild, there are bothies which can only be reached on foot. There is only one road, which runs from the ferry port at Feolin to the main town of Craighouse, then along the east of the island. Nowadays, the 200+ residents are vastly outnumbered by the population of deer, which can be anything between 5000 – 6000! Despite its size, Jura is blissfully untouched, and much of the landscape is inaccessible to the average visitor. At its peak in the 18th century, the island was home to around 2,000 people, however these numbers dropped dramatically due to emigration. For centuries, most of the island was owned by the Campbells, however the last member of the family left in 1938 and parts of the island are now owned by various landlords. Jura is a long and relatively large island 30 miles long and 7 miles wide. The island can be reached in just 10 minutes, on the ferry crossing over the Sound of Islay from Port Askaig to Feolin. Jura belongs to the Inner Hebrides, and sits off the west coast at Scotland between the mainland of Argyll and Islay, with Colonsay even further west, and the famous Corryvreckan whirlpool to the north. Jura falls to the extreme end of the latter. I love every Scottish Island that I’ve visited, but some have been slow-burners, while others were more like a scenic slap in the face. No matter what weather it wears, Jura is an absolute beauty. It was as if these temperamental conditions were deliberate, allowing me to literally see the island in so many different lights. Then, beams of sunlight forced their way through the thick clouds, to illuminate the landscape and highlight the true blue of the water. There were droplets of dew on the grass, and the pebbles on the beach were grey with polka dots from the sporadic sprinkling of rain. When I arrived on Jura, the mist was low and lingering. Was this even the same island I had spent the last two days on? Just an hour earlier, the heavens opened and a luminous rainbow had appeared. It was as if the seasons had shifted, and I was being teased by this glorious outburst. I knew I’d find it hard to leave, and this was definitely not helping.
